The Point Grey road test area has several confusing locations where people have been failing for years. You’re on your road test, everything is going smoothly, and you arrive at some weird intersection and you are baffled. Of course there are signs telling you what you should do, but unfortunately you don’t have time to figure it out and suddenly your smooth road test has fallen apart.
One of the all-time classic failure spots on both the Class 7 and 5 road tests at Point Grey is at the intersection of King Edward and Crown Street. You’ll be heading west on King Edward west of Dunbar and the examiner will have you turn right into a residential street. Then you’ll likely turn left on 24th or some other avenue and head west to Crown Street where you will turn left. Then you will ultimately arrive at Crown and King Edward and the examiner would have asked for you to turn left onto King Edward. The problem here is that King Edward is divided by a grass island (median, divider) and at least half of the time the examinee goes to turn onto the wrong side of King Edward, even though there is a sign that says “Wrong Way.” Failure.
Or the examinee might turn onto the correct side of the street, but then they miss the 30K playground zone sign. Or they might see it, but when the wide open playground zone ends, you’re now driving on a darker street surrounded by trees, and if you don’t pick up your speed, the examiner might feel you’re driving too slow.
If you’re taking your road test at Point Grey ICBC and you’re not familiar with the area, it is greatly to your advantage to be aware of this classic road test failure location.
